In
the battle against consumer fraud, especially in the area of hurricane repair,
the Crime Commission serves as both a shoulder to lean on and a voice in the
community to prevent price gouging and stolen deposits for repair work never
conducted. After Hurricane Wilma in October,
2005, the Crime Commission worked in concert with the Attorney General’s Office
by circulating information to the community as well as posting notices on
community TV bulletin boards. Brochures
and hand outs include a checklist of do’s and don’ts, a well as educational
workshops and Town Hall Meetings with the Department of Business and
Professional Regulation (DBPR).
